Cartoon Gospel for September 11th

Cartoon Items | Cafe Press Items

It's because God comes to save the lost that we cannot harden our hearts to sinners (or even our own sins). God can find us wherever we're at. No matter how far we've drifted away. No matter how sinful we've been. All we have to do is let ourselves be found. God always loves us, even though God does not approve of our sinful actions. Perhaps this unconditional love is an example we can apply in our lives.

Don't Tread on Me

Serpents and scorpions are old testament symbols of evil. The power over evil is something to rejoice about, but the gift of a loving God is perhaps more worthy of our praise. In other words, let's not get all caught up in God for a power trip, but rather rejoice in God's compassion and grace.

John 20:1-18

Occupied?

Leave it to John to weave a very involved tale of intrigue. Mary finds the tomb empty, reports it to the disciples and they come to check it out. Presumably John reaches the tomb first, but Peter goes in first, then John. In some narrative interpretations of this, Peter represents authority - which goes in first, but John represents the heart which is necessary for understanding. At any rate they leave only understanding that the tomb is empty. Mary stays behind and recongizes Jesus when he calls her by name, then she reports this back to the disciples. For John, this is the beginning of their understanding of who Jesus was. Another homework assignment - compare Matthew, Mark, Luke and John for similarities and differences.

All spoke well of him. He was okay, until he pointed out that God's truth had to be for all people and all nations. They could no longer guard it with jealous pride. "The very stone which the builder rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord's doing" Mt. 21.42, Psalm 118.
